That’s where I’m headed.

Heaven, that place where God lives and all those that have accepted His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Sound too good to be true? And how can I be so sure?

I John 5:13 says that you can know you have eternal life if you believe on the name of the Son of God. Jesus clearly stated it in John 11: 25 and 26 when He said, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die…”

And that’s exactly what I did December 5, 1974 as a college freshman in the UCLA student union. After a semester of Bible study, I came to the harsh realization that I was a sinner. Even with all my good works and good life I had to be honest with myself and admit that I had sinned.

For you see, sin is anything that is contrary to God’s perfect law of righteousness. There is no one who can look in the Bible and say that they are as righteous and as holy as God. And the Bible plainly declares that God must punish sin and send the sinner to a place called hell.

I also came face to face with Jesus Christ and His offer of forgiveness and the gift of eternal life which He made available by dying on the cross and rising again in the resurrection. To receive Christ’s offer for salvation meant I had to admit my sin to God and repent of my life of self-will and pride. And then I willingly trusted in Christ to forgive me and give me eternal life. It was from that point on that I promised Jesus to make Him king of my life.

But it’s not just a mental exercise which brings salvation.

I spoke a simple prayer of faith, that involved talking to God, that completed the transaction of salvation. And so began a wonderful walk with God and living the abundant life that He promises in John 10:10.

I am still following God and enjoying a life of adventure that comes from trusting Him.

Won’t you consider where your life is headed apart from God and accept the promise of eternal life?

Accept God’s offer to be numbered among those who can look forward to a home in heaven, for Jesus said,

“In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:2-3).
